What is a Safe Zone Conversation?
A Safe Zone Conversation (SZC) is defined as dialogue amongst a group of people or professionals purposely engineered to discuss human topics that can be deemed as sensitive, uncomfortable, or complex in nature. It is an environment of mutual respect and inclusivity, a safe place for people to speak their minds. All comments and questions are welcomed. No judgements.

- Promote diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging within your organization.
- Foster mutual respect and understanding among staff.
- Create a safe space for staff to learn and grow together.
- Provide valuable training on sensitive topics.
Program Details:
- Expertly Facilitated: Led by IPRA's Diversity Section Leadership or trained volunteers.
- Interactive Format: Group discussions with time for reflection and sharing.
- Great Resources: Your agency will receive additional resources and support that are useful tools for agencies as they navigate their DEIB Journey.
- Engaging Dialogue: SZC participants can expect to learn and explore through dialogue with facilitators.
- Ease of Facilitation: Each SZC is 90-120 minutes conducted on Zoom.
What Does It Cost and Who Has Hosted a SZC?
This service is available in exchange for a donation to the Illinois Park and Recreation Foundation to further support diversity, equity, and inclusion education. IPRA will invoice the applicant after scheduling an event.
What Happens Afterwards?
Applicants can choose to do one or multiple Safe Zone Conversations. Resources will be provided for further individual and group exploration.
