Youth Mental Health First-Aid Certification

Youth Mental Health First-Aid Certification
The COVID-19 pandemic has caused a great deal of stress and anxiety in our communities, particularly within the youth population. According to Mental Health America, 64.1% of youth with major depression do not receive any mental health treatment. IPRA has teamed up with Grand Prairie Services to offer three Youth Mental Health First-Aid Certification classes through the Mental Health First Aid public education program. Youth Mental Health First-Aid is primarily designed for adults who regularly interact with young people and teaches how to identify, understand, and respond to signs of mental illness in youth. This training gives adults the skills they need to reach out and provide initial support to children and adolescents (ages 6-18) who may be developing a mental health problem and help connect them to the appropriate care. All three classes are generously sponsored by PDRMA's Path program.

Registration is FREE for participants with at least one IPRA member at their agency. Due to limited capacity, each agency may register up to 3 people from their agency per class.

Virtual Training:
Participants only need to participate in one class to complete certification. Each class consists of a 2-hour, self-paced online module and a 4.5-hour videoconference led by an instructor from Grand Prairie Services. Directions to complete the self-guided portion of the class will be provided after registration.

Who Should Attend: Parents, teachers, coaches, camp counselors, and professionals who work with youth at park districts, park and recreation departments, special recreation associations, and forest preserve districts.
