Your Time: Manage it or Live it. Everyone only has 24 hours each day. We are bombarded with advertisements (5,000 per day), emails and interruptions. Our "to-do" lists are long. We feel overwhelmed. In this session you will learn to prioritize and focus on what you "could do" and not what everyone else wants you "to-do."

This session will look at the increase of mental health in the general population and how Special Recreation Associations are being asked to assist with providing inclusive recreational programming for this population within a reasonable scope of practice. Individuals with a mental health diagnosis can escalate quickly and without warning, so it is important to understand what a diagnosis may mean and staffs role in the safety of all participants involved in a program.

As a leader in the SRA and Therapeutic Recreation field, you’ve applied safety and risk management tools and practices to your programming and internal practices.  But are you familiar with the principles and background of the concepts?  Knowing the “Why we do, what we do” can make implementation earlier and allow for your agency to communicate the risk tolerance of the organization.

Your presentation can either be death by PowerPoint or that one session that everyone talks about because it fired the audience up and left them wanting more. You've all endured the bad, boring, and just plain bungled lecture. You may have even delivered one of those. This session will have you laughing (maybe even crying if we use one of your presentations as an example) at some of the most outrageous examples while giving you tips and tricks to make your next presentation a smashing success.

Marketing at its best isn't that complicated.  The creativity is often in the simplicity of the message and how it's communicated.  There are things that you're already doing to market your programs.  However, in this session, we'll talk about how you can capitalize on marketing your programs by doing the things you already  - better. There are plenty of activities for participants to choose from, so the more effectively you communicate with them, the better off you are.

We all remember the first time we were faced with our first “Problem Parent”. Whether you came away from your first encounter scared or unscathed, communicating effectively with parents is an everyday task of Therapeutic Recreation Professionals- and it's not always an easy one! This session identities the 5 main types of “Problem Parents” and demonstrates practical, essential skills you will use every day to handle conflict with confidence and calmness. Attendees are provided with tools and ideas to help develop an action plan that sets the foundation to building and repairing parent relationships while identifying the factors that enable “Problem Parents” to thrive.
