2019 State Education Roadshow - Mokena
The Education Roadshow is a one-day event held multiple times throughout the year, and it is designed to provide consistent educational opportunities to members throughout Illinois. This year's journey begins with a trip south of I-80 to Mokena Community Park District's Oaks Recreation & Fitness Center, where Jarrod Scheunemann (Campfire Concents), Dr. Andrew Kerins (Eastern Illinois University), and Greg Petry (Petry Consulting) will present on trending topics such as Customer Service, Cultural Competency, and the DiSC® Assessment. Come join your colleagues for a fun day of networking and quality education with IPRA. Light breakfast and lunch is included.

To Register: Login to your IPRA account, then select "Register Myself". If you are not an IPRA member, create an account as a Basic Contact, then register for the event.

Fee: $25.00 IPRA Member / Non-Member

Registration Cancellation: Cancellations received on or before March 26, 2019 are eligible for a full refund less a 20% administrative fee. No refunds will be available for cancellations after March 26, 2019.

CEUs: This event is approved for 0.3 CEUs (Continuing Education Units are for CPRE and CPRP certification).

Journey with Jarrod through his last 20 years of visits to nearly 50 National Parks and consulting work with over 1,000 parks, facilities, programs, and events in Illinois. This session will connect his experiences with essential and timeless customer service principles. Attendees will develop a vision for customer service, receive tips on how to lead through the platinum rule, and create strategies for building lasting relationships.

Dr. Kerins will discuss cultural competency as it relates to programming and outreach in non-formal education settings. Cultural competency is "a broad concept that not only encompasses one's understanding of other cultural groups, but also the outward expression of this knowledge in one's conduct and interactions" (Smith & Soule, 2016). Understanding different cultural groups is a critical issue facing our field as we strive to equitably offer programs and services to all residents and visitors in our communities.
