Professional Development School 2021

Professional Development School 2021
PDS is back in 2021! IPRA's longest-standing educational and networking opportunity takes place in November at the majestic Eagle Ridge Resort & Spa in Galena, Illinois. Professional Development School, otherwise known as 'PDS', provides park, recreation, and conservation professionals with the opportunity to gain practical education in a small, student-focused and relaxed atmosphere. Whether you are a new or seasoned professional, this is the place to LEARN, develop, and hone personal skills that serve as the backbone of the industry; broaden your leadership development and CONNECT with others; and equip yourself with tools to lead and INSPIRE your agency. Come "Ignite the Flame Within You" and join the many professionals that have graduated from PDS and advanced their career.

Eagle Ridge Resort and the PDS Board of Regents will follow CDC and IDPH guidelines for safety as they apply to the circumstances in November 7-10, 2021. Attendees should fully expect safety protocols such as mask-wearing, proper distancing, reduced group sizes, cleaning of facilities, and easy access to hand sanitizer. Additionally, as an added safety precaution, only Single-Occupancy and No-Lodging are available for registration in 2021.

Who Should Attend:
PDS offers tiered levels of continuing education designed to help develop industry professionals at different career stages.

  • Year One defines strengths and hones basic personal and professional skills needed for professionals to perform effectively.
  • Year Two aspires emerging leaders to pursue a leadership role and understand the tools needed to fulfill the agency mission.
  • Graduate is for those in graduated leadership positions looking for ways to inspire the agency towards high-level and strategic goals.

In this motivational keynote address, Lloyd Bachrach inspires others with his riveting story about living with a severe physical disability. Born with Proximal Femoral Focal Deficiency (PFFD), a rare congenital bone deficiency, Lloyd faces tremendous challenges on a daily basis. Lloyd’s humor, honestly, and open perspective put audiences at ease. As part of the “Overcoming Adversity to Succeed”, Lloyd removes his prosthetic legs so that the audience can see his real legs, fully conceptualize his challenges, and gain an understanding of how the artificial limbs help him. Lloyd demonstrates how he achieved success in a variety of sports ranging from Little League Baseball to gymnastics—in which he excelled throughout high school in college— to Sitting Volleyball, the sport for which he competed at the 1996 Paralympics. Lloyd also inspires audiences with his “five keys to success”: 1) Build High Self-Esteem 2) Focus with a Positive Attitude 3) Set Powerful Goals 4) Persevere 5) Maintain a Healthy Mind, Body, and Spirit. After hearing Lloyd’s uplifting Yes, You Can! message, audience members gain a new perspective on overcoming their own personal challenges, no matter what they might be.
