Professional Development School

Professional Development School
IPRA's longest-standing educational and networking opportunity takes place this November at the majestic Eagle Ridge Resort & Spa in Galena, Illinois. Professional Development School, or "PDS" as it's commonly referred to, provides park and recreation professionals with the opportunity to gain practical application education in a small, student-focused and relaxed atmosphere. Whether you are a new or seasoned professional, this is the place to learn and refine soft skills that are the backbone of the industry, develop the leader within, and equip with tools to lead and inspire at your agency.  Come join the tradition and "Unleash the Force Within You"!

Who Should Attend:
PDS offers a progressive curriculum, which means new participants, regardless of age and job title, must begin with Year One. When Year Two is completed, participants may and are encouraged to participate at the Graduate level annually.

  • Year One defines strengths and hones the soft skills needed for professionals to perform effectively for their agency.
  • Year Two identifies and develops the leader within to help you become an intentional and mission-focused professional.
  • Graduate equips you with actionable tools that help you to lead and inspire at your agency.

To Register:

Login to your IPRA account, then select "Register Myself". If you are not an IPRA member, create an account as a Basic Contact, then register for the event. Select one of three different lodging types, designate yourself as a Year One, Year Two, or Graduate attendee, identify any special food allergies and/or ADA requests, and list your roommate request (Double Occupancy only).

"These are not the droids you are looking for" would be a great quality to have to convince your team to follow you. Okay, let's face it - special Jedi quality only exists in movies. In real life, we call it "influence", and it certainly is vital to any leadership role you will play in your life. Come join John Kennedy as he presents not only how to "awaken" your leadership force, but also how to "unleash" that force within you...and your team! John will present the top motivators all humans possess and the art and science behind balancing motivation and influence within your park system. Whether you are an emerging or existing leader within your circle of influence, John will provide the tools to be the first Jedi, not the last, and offer a "new hope" for successful leadership in a galaxy far away.....or nearby Illinois.
