Managing Public Anxiety Related to COVID-19

Managing Public Anxiety Related to COVID-19
Stress levels are at an all time high as we cope with the health risks of COVID-19, financial implications, and fears related to reopening our country.  Parks have been and will continue to be an important resource for the public as they seek to gain relief from this stress in their lives. Park Districts and their employees will need to be equipped to handle the stress levels they will likely encounter from patrons using the parks and various recreational facilities throughout Illinois. Dr. Scott Mitchell, President and CEO of SamaraCare, will provide useful information about the various kinds of mental health issues that may be encountered in our parks in the context of the COVID-19 crisis, and how to best manage these issues for the well-being of the patrons of the parks, the general public, and the employees of the parks. Joining Dr. Mitchell and providing perspective on behalf of police and park professionals is Rick Splittgerber, Sergeant for the DuPage County Forest Preserve Police and President of the Illinois Park Law Enforcement Association, and Erin Folk, Executive Director of the Oregon Park District and Chair of the Illinois Park and Recreation Association.
