Certified Playground Safety Inspector Course
Designed by the National Recreation and Park Association and co-hosted by the Illinois Park and Recreation Association, the CPSI certification program provides the most comprehensive and up-to-date training on playground safety issues, including hazard identification, equipment specifications, surfacing requirements and risk management methods. CPSI course participants will gain practical, hands-on training on how to apply the ASTM standards and the CPSC guidelines to playground environments.

Registration Cancellation Policy:
Cancellations received on or before September 13, 2019
are eligible for a full refund less a $25 administrative fee. Cancellations received after attendee course books have been mailed will also be charged a non-refundable $85 materials fee, unless course books are returned. No refunds will be available for cancellations received after September 13, 2019. All cancellation requests must be submitted in writing.
The option to take the CPSI exam via computer-based testing is available through NRPA. To obtain additional information, please visit
. Please be advised if you register to take the exam with the course, you will not receive a refund if you decide to take the exam via computer-based testing at a later date. Please decide now if you would like to take the exam on Day 3 of the course.
A candidate who has a disability may request a special accommodation; the request must be submitted in writing at the time of course or exam registration. In order to properly accommodate all persons with disabilities, it is recommended that all requests be made 45 days prior to the scheduled date for the course and exam.
English as a Second Language (ESL):
English as a second language (ESL) candidates may request a time extension and/or the use of a strict translation dictionary. Request forms/fees must be submitted to NRPA no less than 30 days prior to the exam. The request form is available online at
