Aquatic Facility Operator Course - March 2023
The Aquatic Facility Operator (AFO) course is a national certification program offered by the National Recreation and Park Association and hosted by the Illinois Park and Recreation Association. The program is designed to provide the most comprehensive and up-to-date training for pool operators and focuses on water chemistry, disinfection, mechanical systems, operations, healthy pools and safety. Upon successful completion of the AFO Course and a 50-question open book exam, participants will be certified for 5 years by the National Certification Board in coordination with the National Recreation and Park Association. If your job requires you to oversee a public pool or aquatic facility, or you are looking to further educate yourself on aquatic facility maintenance and operations, you are encouraged to take this course.

Registration Cancellation: Cancellations received on or before February 22, 2023 are eligible for a full refund less a $25 administrative fee. Cancellations received after attendee course books have been mailed will also be charged a non-refundable $45 materials fee, unless course books are returned. No refunds will be available for cancellations received after February 22, 2023. All cancellation requests must be submitted in writing. 

Course Materials: Course materials will be sent to the registered attendees at least one week before the start of the course. Participants are encouraged to register early to allow time to read the course materials in advance of the first day of class. 

CEUs: Event approved for 1.5 CEUs (Continuing Education Units are for certifications such as CPRE, CPRP, and CTRS).

Safety Protocols: We will be following CDC, state, local, and/or facility guidelines for safety as they apply to the circumstances in March 2023. Safety protocols may include mask-wearing, reduction in participation numbers, social distancing, and easy access to hand sanitizer. Specific details will be provided to registrants closer to event date.

Hotel Accommodations: A block of rooms is available at the Four Points Sheraton in Buffalo Grove for guests requiring overnight accommodations. The discounted group rate is $119 per night plus tax. To make a room reservation, please CLICK HERE. Reservations must be made by Wednesday, February 8 in order to receive the group rate. Guests may cancel their reservation up to 72 hours prior to arrival without penalty.

Special Accommodations: A candidate who has a disability may request a special accommodation; the request must be submitted in writing at least 45 days prior to the scheduled date for the course and exam.

English as a Second Language (ESL): English as a second language (ESL) candidates may request a time extension and/or the use of a strict translation dictionary. Requests must be submitted at the time of registration, and the course instructor will work collaboratively with NRPA to ensure all approved, reasonable accommodations are met.
