LEADING THE HEART OF YOUR COMMUNITY IN TIMES OF CHANGE

This is a live video feed series that provides a journey to rediscover the role you and your agency play in your community. This series is brought to you in partnership from the Florida Recreation and Park Association and the Illinois Park and Recreation Association.

Program Goals
• Equip Recreation and Parks professionals with solid relevant tools to assist them in taking on the community and departmental challenges they face today.
• Offer a cost effective way to provide world class training to all levels of recreation and parks departments regardless of size or location.

• Act as a platform for a national “dynamic exchange” of information that we allow for the sharing of leading edge practices, ideas and concepts, thereby providing the opportunity for exponential improvement in departments and communities across the country.
• Create an attitudinal shift in the way the profession is viewed by those outside of the profession by equipping those in the profession with the tools to lead a grassroots attitudinal shift campaign.

Program Components
• Program will be delivered via live video streaming via the internet
o Six sessions of 1 hour in length
• November 13, December 11, February 12, April 9, May 14, and the Conference Session will be September 2.
o Video emails to reinforce the learning’s and keep the momentum in the off months.
• Delivered directly to participants email in-box.
• January, March, June, July
o All sessions archived via password protected portal and available on-demand.
o On-line forum to connect the participants from across the country encouraging them to share best practice, concepts, solutions and creating an opportunity to extend the learning.
o All materials in electronic format for easy download and use.

Who is served
Recreation, Park and Community Service front line, mid level and Director level practitioners.

How to Use
The program can be used by both Departments and individuals alike

Departments:
o LTHC can act as the overarching professional development strategy for year.
o It can be used to create common language and mission.
o Staff can watch the live broadcasts in groups by projecting the stream via LCD project onto a screen or wall and then “debrief” the information together.
o Staff can watch the broadcasts live or on-demand individually and then the information can be reviewed by the team in the next staff meeting or team gathering.

Individuals
o LTHC can act at the personal development plan for those who desire to go to the next level.
o It provides a framework for growth and a built in support system for the individual who is lacking a group situation for dialogue and sharing.
o The individual can participate in the live broadcasts as their schedule allows or on-demand if they have other commitments at the broadcast times.

VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITY: BMW Championship

Come join us and see the world's top 70 golfers by volunteering at the BMW Championship at Cog Hill in Lemont.

IPRA volunteers have worked with the Western Golf Association to provide volunteers for the admissions/credentialing area. All proceeds from the event benefit the Evans Scholar Foundation to provide scholarships for caddies.

We request that all volunteers provide one full day or two half days of volunteering. All volunteers receive a pass to attend the rest of the tournament free of charge as well as a one day pass to return with a friend on another day.

The Village Greens of Woodridge Golf Course is conveniently located near I-355, I-88 and I-55. Golfers find the Village Greens’ tree-lined fairways and golfer-friendly atmosphere an ideal layout. The course features 6,638 yards of golf from the longest tees, for a par 72 and has a course rating of 71.2 with a slope of 121. Fairways are blue grass with bent grass tees and greens. Village Greens of Woodridge Golf Course first opened in 1959, was purchased by the village in 1963, and has been managed by the Woodridge Park District since 1996. Rated Best Value for Golf in Chicago, the course hosts over 90 outings annually. The staff at the course believes the tree-lined holes and water features provide for a rewarding and peaceful golf experience for golfers of all levels of play.

BMW Volunteers please join us for a celebration of this year's tournament with a golf outing for our volunteers and their guests at the beautiful Glendale Lakes Golf Club in Glendale Heights. Designed with the Fairway "Target Golf" concept, each shot is an experience. While the course is not overly long, it is very challenging. The cost is $25 which includes green fee and cart. We will begin with an 8 am shotgun start. You may also win some prizes as well!

Presentation will focus on the benefits of maintaining a park police force and how this department works within the community and in alignment with city/village law enforcement. Additionally, strategies for enhancing and maintaining park safety & encouraging citizen engagement in safety initiatives will be discussed.

Participants will learn park safety strategies and initiative that they can evaluate for implementation within their own communities. Participants will gain an understanding of the ways in which park district police enhance park safety and how they integrate into the community and with other law enforcement personnel.

The Aquatic Facility Operator course is an 18-hour training program specifically designed to meet the needs of those working in public and semi-public recreational pool or water park facilities. The AFO program offers a unique risk management approach, rarely offered to operations personnel. The course provides information and training for both supervisory and operations personnel. In-depth instruction will be given on filtration, disinfections, water testing and treatment, design consideration, facility management, risk management, facility trouble-shooting and much more. The AFO certification course is the most comprehensive program available for those responsible for operating clean, safe, and efficient aquatic facilities.

Upon successful completion of the AFO course and exam, the National Certification Board of NRPA will officially certify participants. Certification is valid for three years and is renewable.

This course includes a copy of the NRPA’s Aquatic Facility Operator Manual, the most complete and comprehensive publication available on pool operations. Author Kent G. Williams has over 30 years of experience directing beginners and experienced pool managers through the often complex process of aquatic operations.
